Last week, the Oldham County Board of Adjustments and Appeals dismissed three appeals concerning the Highway 53 data center location. This only kicks our fight down the road until next month, when a hearing on newly-filed appeals opposing the proposed location at the Sauerbeck Drive-In will take place. We are not done. We look forward to continuing to advocate for our land and our people in subsequent appeals. 

We need a packed house at two crucial meetings coming up next week to demand that our elected and appointed officials regulate data centers:

Study Review Committee (SRC) Meeting

• What: Planning staff (including Director Ryan Fischer and Senior Planner Anna Barge) will present their final recommendations on data center definitions and regulations.

• When: Tuesday, June 24th at 9 AM

• Where: Oldham County Fiscal Court Building

Special Called Fiscal Court Meeting

• What: The Fiscal Court will hear and vote on a proposed moratorium to pause data center applications. We need your help to insist on no exceptions to this moratorium – it must include all data centers.

• When: Thursday, June 26th at 2 PM

• Where: Oldham County Fiscal Court Building

*At this meeting, there will be a second reading of the proposed moratorium, discussion of amendments, and a vote to adopt a 150-day moratorium on accepting any new data center applications. This pause would remain in effect until new regulations and definitions are voted on by the Planning Commission, the Fiscal Court, and the City of LaGrange.

How You Can Help

Your voice is vital! Call your magistrate and tell them the moratorium MUST include ALL data centers and that data centers are NOT private utilities.

We are gathering support for a new petition that requires handwritten signatures. The purpose of this petition is to demonstrate to our state officials the strong community opposition of unregulated data centers.

• Sign the petition at the Coffeehouse & Cafe in La Grange or Scissors & Comb Salonin Crestwood during business hours.

• You can also find us with petitions at the upcoming meetings mentioned above and the La Grange farmers market on Saturday mornings.
