Oldham Countians,
Massive hyperscale data centers are rapidly expanding into rural areas, and Oldham County is now at risk. A shell company, Western Hospitality Partners (WHP), has entered a conditional deal to purchase 267 acres in our agricultural district to build eight giant data center buildings—each five acres wide and 75 feet tall. This would be the second largest data center in the world, in our backyards.
These centers consume massive resources:
600 megawatts of power (equivalent to 450,000 homes)
Up to 5 million gallons of water per day
Hundreds of diesel generators, burning over 42,000 gallons of fuel per hourduring outages
This is not sustainable, and certainly not right for Oldham County.
WHP is unqualified and unprepared. At the May 21st Technical Review Committee meeting, they failed to answer basic questions. Their attorney offered nothing but vague responses.
Why We Must Say No:
These facilities belong in industrial zones, not rural communities.
They threaten our roads, environment, property values, and health.
The “private utility” conditional use permit (CUP) WHP is seeking abuses state law—it's illegal and offers no public benefit.
This project violates our county’s comprehensive plan.
We are demanding a MORATORIUM NOW. The Fiscal Court must act immediately to stop this process until full transparency and public input are ensured.
